THE TEAM NEWS

GREEN BAY PACKERS

  • Green Bay Packers were defeated for just the second time this season as NFC North rivals Minnesota Vikings got the better of them in last week’s clash with the Vikings highlighting some real deficiencies for the Packers.
  • With many questioning Green Bay’s ability to stop the run, Minnesota RB Dalvin Cook rushed for 163 yards whilst notching three TDs in the 28-22 loss and that is an area they must fix quickly.
  • The 5-2 team now have some big injury issues to contend with at RB with Aaron Jones continuing to struggle with a calf problem whilst Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon are out because of issues related to COVID-19 leaving them extremely light in the backfield.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

  • San Francisco 49ers have suffered with injury woes all season and they continued in their NFC West loss to Seattle Seahawks and those issues could see the Niners in real trouble in their quest to make the play-offs.
  • Despite being 4-4, they are in an extremely competitive division and they face an uphill task to remain in contention having lost some further key players last week, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.
  • Star TE George Kittle and QB Jimmy Garoppolo will be sidelined for an extended period and they may not play again this season and WR Deebo Samuel has failed to practice in the opening two sessions of the week making him questionable to feature on Thursday Night Football.

THE PREDICTION

The gameplan for these two teams is likely to be very clear but different for each as Green Bay Packers head to San Francsico to face the 49ers in an intriguing Thursday Night Football matchup. The Packers are likely to go aerial with the ball as they attempt to counter the loss of their first three RBs on the depth chart and with Green Bay struggling to handle the run in a bad way on Sunday, the 49ers are likely to focus on their ground game. That plan is even more probable with QB Jimmy Garoppolo ruled out through injury whilst their key passing threat in TE George Kittle is also out. This could be a battle of attrition but there could be points on offer for both teams with the pair struggling defensively and this contest should yield at least 50 points.
