The prediction

The Melbourne Demons host the Sydney Swans on Sunday at the MCG with neither team familiar nor happy with where they currently reside on the ladder.

The Demons have improved their play over the last month and took the scalp of defending premiers the Brisbane Lions. Their only defeat in their past five has come at the hands of the Hawks, and while the wins have come against other struggling team, the upset of the Lions may have instilled a little more belief in Simon Goodwin’s team. The Demons overcame a three-quarter time deficit to record their best victory of the year so far.

It has been a similar story for the Swans; not proving competitive in enough games this season although they did start to rewrite the script with a five goals to two last quarter against the Blues to win 78-62. One thing in their favour is a healthy percentage so if the wins pile up they will be well placed to sneak into top eight come September.

Recent history between the two sides shows three wins each from their past six, the most recent a season opening 86-64 Swans win in 2024.
