Maccabi Tel-Aviv basically blew the chance of finishing in the top 24 last week as they now take on a Porto side that could be the surprise team to be eliminated from this league phase.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv vs Porto Prediction

Over the winter break, Maccabi Tel-Aviv lost manager Robbie Keane to Ferencvaros and that could well have been the catalyst for them to give up on their slim top 24 chances.

The Israeli’s had enjoyed back-to-back victories in this competition before the departure of Keane to the Hungarian champions and they returned to UEFA Europa League action last week with a 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in the Arctic Circle last week in a game in which they took the lead. They sit three points adrift of the knockout playoffs ahead of the final match day.

Porto have had a turbulent campaign in Andre Villas-Boas’ first year as president with manager Vitor Bruno sacked last week and replaced by Martin Anselmi this week – this game being the first of his tenure. The Dragons have failed to capitalise on the poor performances of Sporting CP and Benfica of late to sit third in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

Porto suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Olympiakos last week with elimination from the UEFA Europa League to be confirmed this week unless they win. Maccabi Tel-Aviv have little motivation here and, on neutral territory, a Porto win does remain the likeliest outcome.
