The prediction

The GWS Giants (5th, 16W, 7L) secured a home final after surviving a thriller against St Kilda, winning by 11 points. Superstar captain Toby Greene dragged his side over the line with late-game heroics.

The Hawthorn Hawks (8th, 15W, 8L) scraped into the finals despite a spirited ten-point loss to Brisbane. They pushed the top four Lions all the way, showcasing their potent forward line and never-say-die attitude. 

Key Players:

GWS's Toby Greene was inspirational against the Saints, kicking four crucial goals and taking a game-saving contested mark going back with the flight of the ball in the dying moments. He will once again be called upon to step up in the big moments if his side have any plans on progressing deep into September.

Hawthorn's Mabior Chol was a constant threat against Brisbane's defence, kicking three vital goals, with two coming from powerful contested marks in the forward 50. The duo of Chol (39) and Jack Gunston (62) have combined for 101 goals this season and they pose a real threat to the Giants defensive back six.

Head-to-Head:

The teams met only once in 2025, with Hawthorn claiming a hard-fought 12-point victory in Tasmania way back in Round 3.   

The Giants' home-ground advantage is significant, but the forced absence of veteran midfielder Stephen Coniglio through concussion could be a decisive blow. Hawthorn veterans Gunston, James Sicily and James Worpel must step up for their team to have any chance of causing the upset in the harbour city.
