The prediction

Gold Coast (8th) had their credentials as a finals contender severely questioned in Round 19, suffering a humbling 61-point thrashing at the hands of the Adelaide Crows 107-46. It was a non-competitive performance that saw them held goalless in the first half.

Brisbane (2nd) secured their fourth consecutive victory by holding off a determined Western Bulldogs side to win by 10 points, 86-76. While not their most convincing performance, they did what great teams do: found a way to win and continue their march up the ladder. 

In a dark day for the Suns against Adelaide, inside midfielder Matt Rowell was a beacon of defiance. He fought tirelessly at the coalface, finishing with 30 disposals and 12 clearances.

For the Lions, young star Will Ashcroft was instrumental in their victory over the Bulldogs. His class shone through as he pushed forward to kick three crucial goals to complement his 26 disposals.

The history of the QClash is one of near-total domination by Brisbane. The Lions have won 11 of the last 12 encounters against the Suns. Their most recent meeting in Round 8 of this season resulted in a 17-point victory for the Lions.

The Suns' confidence will be extremely fragile after last week's capitulation. Facing a powerful, experienced team that they have historically struggled against is the worst possible follow-up. Brisbane's superior class, depth, and system should prove far too much for the Suns to handle
