Morocco are set for their seventh FIFA World Cup™ appearance, and third in a row, marking the first time they’ve qualified for three consecutive editions. Their history at the finals began in 1970, when they became only the second African nation, after Egypt in 1934, to compete on football’s biggest stage.
The Atlas Lions head to the FIFA World Cup 26™ with history on their minds, hoping to replicate their sensational run at Qatar 2022. There, they became the first African team to reach the semi-finals, topping a group that included Croatia, Belgium and Canada. They then stunned Spain and Portugal in the knockouts before falling to France in the semi-finals and finishing fourth after a narrow 2-1 loss to Croatia.
Morocco were the first African nation to qualify for the 2026 finals, sealing their spot on 5 September 2025 with a commanding 5-0 win over Niger to top Group E. They went on to win all eight of their qualifying matches, finishing with a perfect record.
Morocco’s U-20 team, the Atlas Cubs, made history in October 2025, claiming their first-ever FIFA world title with a stunning 2-0 victory over Argentina in the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025™ final.
