The Kosovan champions, Ballkani, have never previously qualified for any European competition. Kosovo was granted UEFA permission in 2016 and they only managed their first surprise qualification by winning the Kosovan title last season. The Lithuanian champions, Zalgiris Vilnius, reached the playoff round of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season after winning the first qualifying round in the UEFA Champions League against Linfield.
