THE LOWDOWN

REAL SOCIEDAD

Under the management of Imanol Aguacil, Real Sociedad are arguably the most intense pressing team in European football. La Real have balanced their intensity with a high degree of composure and skill in the final third this season as they try and compete for a top four spot, once again, but also dominate in the UEFA Champions League.

Whilst sitting sixth in the table may appear a little underwhelming after being fourth last season, Aguacil has been able to cope well with the demands in pressure and intensity from Europe’s elite competition whilst maintaining some strong domestic form. They comfortably defeated rock-bottom Almeria by three goals to one before the break.

SEVILLA

Sevilla’s second manager of the campaign, Diego Alonso, is already under pressure in Andalusia with the former Uruguay boss failing to inspire any real and noticeable improvement in terms of results as of yet. They shared a 1-1 draw with Real Betis in ‘El Gran Derbi’ a couple of weeks ago before the break.

In 18 matches across all competitions so far this season, Sevilla have somehow managed just three victories with one of those coming against Quintanar in the first round of the Copa del Rey and two league wins against Almeria and Las Palmas. That victory against Quintanar is their only win in their last ten matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

REAL SOCIEDAD

Real Sociedad have several key injury issues, particularly in attack, with the absences of Mikel Oyarzabal and Carlos Fernandez for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-3-2): Alex Remiro; Traore, Elustondo, Le Normand, Munoz; Zubimendi; Zakharyan, Turrientes, Barrenetxea; Sadiq, Kubo

UNAVAILABLE: Fernandez (Injured), Merquelanz (Injured), Oyarzabal (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

SEVILLA

Sevilla’s Nemanja Gudelj is suspended for this one, whilst the Andalusians’ defender, Marcao, remains an injury doubt for the visit to the Basque Country.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Dmitrovic; Navas, Bade, Ramos, Pedrosa; Soumare; Ocampos, Rakitic, Sow, Oliver; En-Nesyri

UNAVAILABLE: Gudelj (Suspended), Pastor (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Marcao (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Weirdly, despite these two sides being fairly good representations of the low-scoring nature of Spain’s top-flight in recent seasons, these two have produced some entertaining matches of late. Real Sociedad are, simply, a better team right now. On paper, club size and name and reputation, and even the fact they are both in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, would suggest it is a little more evenly matched but it would be very surprising if Sevilla were to go to the north and come away with three points here.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – REAL SOCIEDAD TO WIN OR DRAW
