THE LOWDOWN

ATLETICO MADRID

In what has been a transitional season whereby Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone have tried to evolve their style of football, Los Rojiblancos sit just about tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots as they begin the weekend sitting six points above Athletic Club with four games to go.

The capital city club come into this one on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 defeat of Real Mallorca in the Balearic Islands in their most recent outing, last weekend, with Rodrigo Riquelme scoring a fifth minute winner in that match. That backed up a crucial 3-1 defeat of Athletic the week before at the Metropolitano.

CELTA VIGO

For much of this season, Celta Vigo have underperformed and been involved in the relegation battle under the management of former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. Performances were better than their results showed but since his sacking, the Galicians have improved of late since the appointment of Claudio Giraldez.

Celta come into this one on the back of a vital and thrilling 3-2 defeat of Villarreal at Balaidos last weekend. Alberto Moreno opened the scoring for Villarreal before Santi Comesana was sent off shortly after. Iago Aspas and Jorgen Strand Larsen turned the game on is head before half-time before Goncalo Guedes then equalised but Tasos Douvikas scored a late winner for Celta.

Celta Vigo have just one absentee for this weekend as Ghanaian international defender Joseph Aidoo is unavailable for Celta with an ACL injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Guaita; Manquillo, Starfelt, Jailson; Mingueza, Beltran, Rodriguez, Alvarezl Swedberg, Strand Larsen, Aspas

THE PREDICTION

Atletico Madrid, as mentioned, have played a more proactive style of football in attack with their key man Antoine Griezmann being absolutely essential once again. They will, especially at home, seek to get on the front foot against a Celta side that will be playing in La Liga once again after back-to-back relegation battles. Claudio Giraldez, formerly of Celta B, has also got them playing a more attractive style so Atletico remain favourites but it could be quite a fun watch.

TIP: ATLETICO MADRID TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
