THE LOWDOWN

ALMERIA

It has been a really grim campaign for Almeria and they will go down as statistically one of the very worst teams in La Liga history. Despite that inevitability, their performances have actually been reasonable since just before Christmas but the Andalusians have been ridiculously ineffective at both ends of the pitch.

They have managed just one win in 31 games so far this season and begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting 14 points adrift of safety with 21 points to play for. They come into this on the back of fighting back away at Real Sociedad with Adrian Embarba scoring an 88th minute equalising penalty to collect a point in the Basque Country.

VILLARREAL

It has been a really underwhelming campaign for Villarreal. Marcelino is their third manager of the campaign after the sackings of both Pacheta and Quique Setien but the former Olympique de Marseille boss has staved off early pressure to steady the Yellow Submarine and now has them looking at a top-half finish.

They begin this match day sitting eight points adrift of the top seven and the European spots with seven games to go. The Yellow Submarine come into this one on the back of a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the Basque Country against Athletic with Dani Parejo scoring a 95th minute equalising penalty, despite Villarreal being down to ten men in that game.

THE TEAM NEWS

ALMERIA

Luis Suarez is out injured for this one alongside Marko Milovanovic. Midfielder Gonzalo Melero is also unavailable for the Andalusians due to suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Maximiano; Pubill, Chumi, Edgar Gonzalez, Langa; Robertone, Lopy; Romero, Viera, Embarba; Baptistao

UNAVAILABLE: Melero (Suspended), Milovanovic (Injured), Radovanovic (Injured), Suarez (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

VILLARREAL

Both Santi Comesana and Raul Albiol are out suspended for this week, whilst Eeric Bailly, Juan Foyth and Denis Suarez are all doubtful with injury issues.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Jorgensen; Femenia, Cuenca, Mosquera, Alberto Moreno; Traore, Parejo, Capoue, Baena; Gerard Moreno, Sorloth

UNAVAILABLE: Comesana (Suspended), Albiol (Suspended), Coquelin (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Bailly (Injured), Foyth (Injured), Suarez (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Almeria have given really good games to most of the better sides in La Liga. They led 2-0 at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, led in Barcelona before Christmas, shared a goalless draw with both Girona and Athletic and performances have been better than what their results have shown. Villarreal are, on paper, one of the better sides in Spain and have finally shown that in the last couple of months. The Yellow Submarine remain favourites but Almeria will be confident of bloodying their nose.

TIP: VILLARREAL TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
