Ruben Amorim is still regarded as one of the most exciting managerial talents in European football, despite their regression last season. The capital city club finished fourth, outside of the top three and the UEFA Champions League qualification spots last season. After some summer investment into Sweden international striker Viktor Gyokeres, they will be expected to push towards the top-of-the-table, once again.
After throwing away a two-goal lead at home to Vizela on the opening day, they did eventually win that match by three goals to two. Since then they have gone on to earn back-to-back victories against Casa Pia and Famalicao before sharing a 1-1 draw with the Sporting Braga side that finished above Sporting in the top three last season.
MOREIRENSE
Moreirense gained promotion back to the top-flight last season, under the management of Rui Borges. They won Liga Portugal 2 playing a more progressive and front foot style of football than what we have become accustomed to in Portuguese domestic football. In their 34 matches they scored 77 goals, which was 20 more than anyone else in the division.
The visitors began the season by giving Porto a fright on the opening day. They took a lead in the second-half of that match before eventually succumbing to a 2-1 defeat. Since then, Moreirense have collected four points from three matches with a reasonable draw against Famalicao being followed up by defeating Chaves but losing to Braga.

Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP have started the season well but, once again, look unconvincing at the back. That doesn’t necessarily matter at the moment, though, with the likes of Pedro Goncalves, Viktor Gyokeres and Nuno Santos continuing to impress up-front. They face a Moreirense side that will go the Jose Alvalade and believe they can get something, or at least cause Sporting some problems. A home win is to be expected but it could be quite an entertaining encounter this weekend.
