In the 2021/22 season, Gil Vicente qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League after finishing in the top five in the Primeira Liga. They were knocked out early on and suffered a very difficult season last year, finishing in the bottom-half. However, over the summer, they have managed to appoint the very impressive Vitor Campelos and will be looking at finishing back inside the top five.
The home team come into this, though, on the back of a continuation of their poor form before the international break. They were beaten 1-0 by Vizela a couple of weeks ago and that means they have started with just one win and three defeats in their opening four matches. Their one win came against Portimonense by five goals to nil on the opening day of the season whereas their three losses have been against Vitoria, Benfica and the aforementioned Vizela.
ESTORIL
Estoril are one of a group of sides, such as Rio Ave, Chaves and Casa Pia, to gain promotion to the top-flight and then quickly establish themselves in the middle-of-the-table. They finished in the bottom-half last season but will be hoping to build on that this time around having replaced former Benfica coach Nelson Verissimo with Alvaro Pacheco, who performed magnificently well with the aforementioned Chaves.
Estoril have started the 2023/24 Portuguese Primeira Liga campaign with some interesting, entertaining but ultimately frustrating matches so far. On the opening day, after leading three times in the match, they suffered a 4-3 loss to Arouca before beating Rio Ave by two goals to nil. Now they come into this on the back of back-to-back 2-1 defeats against Estrela da Amadora and Boavista.

Gil Vicente have significantly underperformed their pre-season expectations so far this season. They started with an impressive hammering of Portimonense but have since suffered three successive defeats and are languishing down towards the bottom end of the Primeira Liga. They now face an Estoril side that also appointed an impressive manager ahead of the start of the 2023/24 campaign in Alvaro Pacheco. Estoril have had a far better start to the season but this remains a stiff test and both teams scoring does appear a good bet.
