THE LOWDOWN

AROUCA

Last season, Arouca performed impressively by reaching the top six and qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League. Over the summer they lost their manager, Armando Evangelista, to Brazilian Serie A side Goias. They were eliminated in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa Conference League, too.

Now, under the management of Daniel Ramos, they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in third from bottom and in the relegation playoff place. They won 4-3 on the opening day of the season after going behind three times in the match but have suffered four defeats and had three draws in their subsequent seven matches.

MOREIRENSE

Portuguese Primeira Liga football has gained a reputation for being low-scoring and defensive with reactionary tactical styles as one of the lowest scoring leagues in European football. However, Moreirense gained promotion to the top-flight last season playing a more attacking style, scoring 77 goals in 34 matches; 20 more than anyone else.

They had started the 2023/24 Primeira Liga season with just one win and one draw in their opening five matches. However, they have collected seven points in their last three matches with a draw against Boavista following back-to-back victories against Rio Ave and Farense prior to the international break.

THE PREDICTION

Daniel Ramos is under severe pressure for this one as they languish down at the bottom end of the table. Arouca haven’t won since the opening day of the season and look likely to struggle this season. They now face a Moreirense side that come into this on the back of some impressive form as they try and lift themselves into the top-half of the table. Given the respective form of the two teams, a double chance bet in favour of the away team looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – MOREIRENSE TO WIN OR DRAW
