THE LOWDOWN

UDINESE

In what has been a very bizarre campaign for Udinese, they head into the final seven matches of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign sitting just a couple of points above the bottom three and the relegation places. They have somehow managed just four victories in their 31 matches so far this season with only bottom-of-the-table Salernitana having managed fewer.

Having said that, though, they have lost as many games as Fiorentina, just two fewer than defending champions Napoli and a game fewer than high-flying Atalanta. 16 draws have been a major issue form former Crawley Town boss Gabriele Cioffi. The Friulians suffered a 2-1 defeat to champions-elect Internazionale last week.

ROMA

Following the appointment of Daniele De Rossi, replacing Jose Mourinho in January, Roma have been absolutely magnificent in both Serie A and the UEFA Europa League. After knocking out both Feyenoord and Brighton and Hove Albion in Europe, they come into this one on the back of defeating AC Milan by a goal to nil in midweek.

Gianluca Mancini scored a 17th minute winning goal at San Siro in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie the other day. That means the Giallorossi have suffered just two defeats in 16 matches across all competitions since De Rossi came in with a loss against champions-elect Inter and a second-leg defeat to Brighton after hammering them by four goals to nil the week before.

THE PREDICTION

In 31 matches so far this season, Udinese have managed just 30 goals. Only four teams have managed fewer than them so far this season. Their defensive and pragmatic style of football has made things difficult for some of the better teams in the league, as shown with victories away at both AC Milan and Juventus. Roma, though, appear almost immune to any sort of meaningful loss and backing the visitors remains the best bet for this one.

TIP: ROMA TO WIN
