THE LOWDOWN

SASSUOLO

It had been a season of outright and complete underperformance for Sassuolo as they sank from a team with European qualification aspirations to one firmly involved in the relegation battle before former Empoli boss Alessio Dionisi was relieved of his duties in February. Despite the appointment of Davide Ballardini, they are beginning this weekend in the bottom three and the relegation places.

Sassuolo come into this one on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with AC Milan in their most recent outing, last weekend. Early goals from Andrea Pinamonti and Armand Lauriente gave Sassuolo a 2-0 lead before Rafael Leao pulled one back. Lauriente re-established their two-goal lead before Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor then salvaged Milan a point at Stadio Citta del Tricolore.

LECCE

Last month, struggling Lecce took the decision to sack their manager Roberto D’Aversa. It was a mixture of poor performances and results as well as the fact that D’Aversa headbutted Hellas Verona forward Thomas Henry after a 1-0 loss to Verona that led to the club’s decision. He was replaced by Luca Gotti.

I Giallorossi’s performances initially improved and steadied with a 1-0 defeat of Salernitana before the March international break being followed by a goalless draw against Roma after it. They were hammered 3-0 by an impressive AC Milan side at San Siro before then getting another win against Empoli last weekend.

THE PREDICTION

Udinese face Hellas Verona this weekend and this one is another six pointer down in the relegation battle in Serie A. Lecce have scored just 27 goals in their 32 matches so far this season with only Empoli and Salernitana managing fewer than that. Sassuolo have played a far more defensive and cautious style of football since the appointment of Davide Ballardini so, especially with the tension and meaning of the game, a low-scoring encounter is to be expected for this one.

TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
