It has been an absolutely nightmare-ish season for Sassuolo as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the bottom three and the relegation places, despite a recent improvement in their performances under the management of Davide Ballardini after the sacking of former Empoli boss Alessio Dionisi in February.
Sassuolo have suffered just one defeat in their last four matches and come into this one on the back of back-to-back draws since the March international break. The hosts’ most recent outing saw them share a deflating 2-2 draw against bottom-of-the-table Salernitana in a game in which they led by two goals to nil at half-time.
AC MILAN
Stefano Pioli has overseen a generally impressive season for AC Milan but the Rossoneri are in danger of having absolutely nothing to play for in the last month or so of the campaign. They sit 18 points clear of sixth, with the top five likely to be enough for UEFA Champions League qualification, are out of the Coppa Italia and may be heading out of Europe.
That is because they come into this one on the back of a 1-0 loss at home to Roma in the first-leg of their all-Italian UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie in midweek with Gianluca Mancini scoring a 17th minute winning goal in that game at San Siro. Pioli may be tempted to heavily rotate his Milan side for this one ahead of the second-leg.

Sassuolo have one major injury concern for this weekend as attacker Domenico Berardi remains unavailable, whilst Marcus Pedersen is also a doubt.

THE PREDICTION
Now then, we could well have a bit of a surprise on our hands this weekend. Sassuolo, as mentioned, have definitely improved, albeit they will be immensely frustrated with struggling Salernitana. AC Milan are firmly ensconced in the top four or five and the only really meaningful game for them is coming up this week against Roma. So, as a result, their eye may be off the ball and backing Sassuolo may well be a good bet for this one.
