THE LOWDOWN

FROSINONE

Frosinone gained promotion to the top-flight last season with Italian FIFA World Cup winner Fabio Grosso in the dugout but he was replaced with former Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco. The Canaries have made some interesting signings and will intend on playing a proactive and progressive style of football but they are a side that haven’t only just gone up will be expecting to simply survive this season.

The hosts began the 2023/24 Serie A season with a 3-1 defeat at home to reigning champions Napoli on the opening day of the season. Since then they have pulled off a shock defeat of Atalanta, beating the Bergamasci by two goals to one before being held to a goalless draw in Friuli away to Udinese, keeping them firmly in mid-table.

SASSUOLO

The appointment of Alessio Dionisi from Empoli in 2021, after he gained promotion to Serie A with the Florence-based club, has not gone as well as the bosses at Sassuolo would have anticipated. They have been in mid-table playing a good and entertaining style of football but lacking some general effectiveness across the pitch.

Sassuolo come into this on the back of a much-needed 3-1 hammering of Hellas Verona in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago, prior to the international break. They started by defeating Cosenza by five goals to two in the first round of the Coppa Italia before starting their Serie A season with back-to-back 2-0 defeats against Atalanta and Napoli.

THE TEAM NEWS

FROSINONE

Eusebio Di Francesco is still missing Karol Lulic but he should be able to name an unchanged ekeven for this weekend’s visit of Sassuolo.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Turati; Oyono, Monterisi, Romagnoli, Marchizza; Mazzitelli, Barrenchea; Soule, Harroui, Gelli; Cheddira

UNAVAILABLE: Frattali (Injured), Lulic (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Kalaj (Injured)

SASSUOLO

Alessio Dionisi has to contend with a few injuries, most notably in midfield as former West Ham United midfielder, Pedro Obiang, is out injured for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Consigli; Toljan, Erlic, Tressoldi, Vina; Thorstvedt, Boloca, Henrique; Berardi, Pinamonti, Lauriente

UNAVAILABLE: Obiang (Injured), Alvarez (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Both of these managers, Eusebio Di Francesco and Alessio Dionisi, have been highly rated at different times in their career. Frosinone are still adapting to Di Francesco’s very vertical system and philosophy, whilst Sassuolo have been attempting to evolve under Dionisi for a few seasons with very little general success so far. A result may be a little too difficult to call for now but a good game in which both teams score does seem quite likely.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
