THE LOWDOWN
FIORENTINA
Last season, Fiorentina reached both the UEFA Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia finals but I Viola lost them both to West Ham United and Internazionale respectively. After a summer in which they have lost key players such as Igor Tudor and Sofyan Amrabat, they remain a strong side that will be expecting to emulate and even kick on from last season.
They have started the season very badly, though, and only just squeezed past Rapid Vienna to qualify for the group stages of this season’s UEFA Europa Conference League. In Serie A they have hammered newly-promoted Genoa but then been held to a 2-2 draw with Lecce before then being hammered themselves by Inter.
ATALANTA
Over the last couple of seasons, Atalanta have had a fairly difficult time of it as they seek to rebuild and rejuvenate their side. Gian Piero Gasperini remains in charge of the Bergamasci as he seeks to evolve the system and the personnel. They have made some impressive signings so far this summer with the likes of Charles De Ketelaere, Gianluca Scamacca and El Bilal Toure.
They began with an impressive 2-0 win away to Sassuolo on the opening day of the season with two late goals, including one from debutant De Ketelaere. Since then they have suffered a shock 2-1 loss away to Frosinone before heading into the international break on the back of an impressive 3-0 hammering of Monza a couple of weeks ago.

ATALANTA
New signing El Bilal Toure remains injured for the visitors and they are also without key right wing-back, Hans Hateboer; albeit Davide Zappacosta is playing well.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Musso; Scalvini, Djimsiti, Kolasinac; Zappacosta, de Roon, Ederson, Ruggeri; Koopmeiners; De Ketalaere, Scamacca

THE PREDICTION
These are two of the pretenders seeking to squeeze themselves into the top four, or maybe even five for this season, and the UEFA Champions League qualification spots. Both sides have exciting managers, albeit at different stages in their career, and play generally progressive and attacking football with evolving yet young squads that are going through something of a transition. Fiorentina’s three Serie A matches so far have consisted of 13 goals and another high-scoring encounter is likely at the Artemio Franchi on Sunday.
