THE LOWDOWN

CAGLIARI

After their surprise relegation in 2022, Cagliari earned an immediate return to the top-flight in 2023, winning the end of season Serie B playoffs by defeating Bari in the final, under the management of Claudio Ranieri. However, the former Leicester manager is under serious pressure in charge of ‘The Islanders’ after a slow start to the campaign.

In the opening nine matches of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign, Cagliari are one of three winless sides in Italy’s top-flight. The Sardinians come into this on the back of a 2-2 draw away to fellow strugglers Salernitana in their most recent outing. They have collected three draws with six defeats so far this season.

FROSINONE

Alongside Cagliari, Frosinone gained promotion to the top-flight last season as Serie B champions. They came up with Fabio Grosso as their manager but the Italian FIFA World Cup winner is now in charge of Olympique Lyonnais. However, former Roma and Sassuolo boss Eusebio Di Francesco is now in charge of the Roman club and they have started in, as expected, entertaining fashion.

Their opening nine matches of the campaign have seen them win three, draw three and lose three. The games have consisted of 25 goals with 12 scored and 13 conceded. The visitors come into this on the back of a 2-1 loss away to Bologna in their most recent outing, following the international break.

THE TEAM NEWS

CAGLIARI

With time seemingly running out on his tenure, Claudio Ranieri will be without a couple of key players for this weekend’s encounter with both Simone Aresti and Marko Rog unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Scuffet; Nandez, Goldaniga, Dossena, Augello; Makoumbou, Prati, Deiola; Mancosu; Oristanio, Luvumbo

UNAVAILABLE: Aresti (Injured), Rog (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

FROSINONE

Eusebio Di Francesco has to deal with suspended Luca Mazzitelli and they will also be without the likes of the injured, Abdou Harroui, as well as a couple of others.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Turati; Oyono, Romagnoli, Okoli, Marchizza; Ibrahimovic, Barrenechea; Soule, Reinier, Garritano; Cheddira

UNAVAILABLE: Mazzitelli (Suspended), Harroui (Injured), Gelli (Injured), Kalaj (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

These are two newly-promoted sides that would both have had similar expectations for this season which would be to try and push for survival and survival would be viewed as success. Cagliari, though, may already be destined for the drop as they languish down rock-bottom in the Serie A table. Frosinone have drifted after a strong start to the season but it would still be difficult to see them losing to a side that have been much better than this year and last season down in the second-tier.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – FROSINONE TO WIN OR DRAW
