THE LOWDOWN

ATALANTA

Coached by Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta pulled off qualification for a first ever European final in midweek. The Bergamasci hammered Olympique de Marseille by three goals to nil the other day to win 4-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. They will now face Bayer Leverkusen in the final in Dublin later this month.

Domestically, Atalanta are also going strong as they aim to finish tucked inside the top five and earn UEFA Champions League qualification for next season. They are also in the final of the Coppa Italia where they will face Juventus. They have enjoyed three successive victories in Serie A to pile the pressure on their upcoming opponents.

ROMA

As mentioned, Atalanta have reached the UEFA Europa League final where they will play Bayer Leverkusen. That is because the German champions knocked out Roma over two legs and did so in dramatic fashion in midweek as Roma had a 2-0 lead on the night in Germany to make it 2-2 on aggregate before Leverkusen scored two more late goals to keep their unbeaten record intact.

The appointment of Daniele De Rossi in January, replacing Jose Mourinho, was followed by a genuinely impressive and much-improved run of form for the Giallorossi, but they have just begun to tire and drift in the last month and a half or so. The capital city club have now managed just five victories in their last 13 matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

Gian Piero Gasperini still has three defensive injuries to deal with as Rafael Toloi, Erik Holm and former Arsenal man Sead Kolasinac all remain sidelined.

ROMA

After a season chocked full of injury absentees, Daniele De Rossi is finally blessed with a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s trip north to Bergamo.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-2-1): Svilar; Kristensen, Llorente, Ndicka, Tasende; Cristante, Paredes, Pellegrini; Baldanzi, Dybala; Lukaku

THE PREDICTION

This is a massive game. With the top five teams in Serie A assured of UEFA Champions League qualification, Atalanta begin the weekend sitting fifth but only above Roma on goal difference. They are two very evenly matched sides but two sides in very different form with Atalanta looking set to potentially enjoy a historic and famous campaign, whilst the Romans struggle to rediscover their fluency. It could be quite frantic and chaotic, though, with so much on the line and both teams scoring therefore seems a good bet.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
