Bayern Munich head into the penultimate round of this season’s Bundesliga in control of the title race, but one slip up could wind up being oh so costly and the visit of RB Leipzig serves as a huge challenge for the reigning champions with Borussia Dortmund hoping for the opportunity to pounce on any dropped points. RB LEIPZIG
Whilst beating Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena is a formidable challenge, to do so would bring the biggest of rewards for RB Leipzig. It would guarantee their place in the top four and the Champions League next season. Coming off the back of four successive wins in all competitions, both momentum and confidence will be high among the Leipzig camp, but none of those games represent the sort of challenge that Bayern Munich will away from home. The reverse fixture saw Leipzig come from behind to draw 1-1, so they have proven previously that they can match the Bundesliga leaders.
Marco Rose’s side maintained their recent winning streak in dramatic fashion, staging a late comeback to defeat Werder Bremen to put themselves in pole position for a Champions League place ahead of both Union Berlin and Freiburg. After falling behind on 70 minutes, RB Leipzig equalised in the 87th minute before taking full advantage of a lengthy bout of second half stoppage time. Hungarian international Dominik Szoboszlai was the hero, scoring a 96thminute winner, whilst Christopher Nkunku also deserves huge credit assisting both of RB Leipzig’s goals. His return to fitness has come at a good time for the visitors, who have been forced to do without him through significant parts of the season due to injury.

One of the big questions from a Bayern Munich point of view is likely to be whether Thomas Muller starts again. Whilst he may not boast the energy of other attacking players, his experience in such an important match is absolutely priceless and should see him retain a place in the team after scoring against Schalke 04. Following his brace in the same match, Serge Gnabry should start, whilst Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane are therefore likely to be fighting for two places in the first XI. Following his goal and good performance last time out, right-back Noussair Mazraoui stands an excellent chance to keep his place, with Benjamin Pavard playing at centre-back meaning that Dayot Upamecano is forced to settle for a place on the bench once more.

Even if he doesn't start though, Silva could have a big role to play for his side off the bench.

The onus will be on Bayern Munich to grab this game by the scruff of the neck and impose themselves upon RB Leipzig, with the hosts simply needing to win knowing that failure to do so could well hand the league title to Borussia Dortmund. Having seemingly clicked at just the right time, the recent attacking verve of Bayern should see them carve out numerous openings here, although Leipzig will pose a big offensive threat themselves.
