Bayer Leverkusen head into the penultimate round of this season’s Bundesliga in control of the title race, but one slip up could wind up being oh so costly and the visit of Borussia Monchengladbach serves as a huge challenge for the reigning champions with Borussia Dortmund hoping for the opportunity to pounce on any dropped points. After a really tough start to life as Bayern head coach, Thomas Tuchel has guided his side to three consecutive Bundesliga wins at just the right time. Goals are starting to flow now for the Bavarians, accumulating ten of them over the course of those three victories and they certainly sent a message to Dortmund with their most recent triumph, a 6-0 battering of Schalke 04 at the Allianz Arena.
The hosts broke through just after 20 minutes with a goal from Thomas Muller, before Joshua Kimmich added a second from the penalty spot. Bayer Leverkusen then went on to rack up four more goals in the second half, Serge Gnabry bagging a brace, whilst Mathys Tel and Noussair Mazraoui also got themselves on the scoresheet. From a defensive perspective, two of Bayern’s last three have seen them keep a clean sheet.

Borussia Monchengladbach’s season is ending with a whimper and more than an air of mid-table mediocrity. Three of their last four Bundesliga fixtures have ended in defeat, most recently losing 5-2 away at Borussia Dortmund, the offensive class of the hosts proving far too strong for Monchengladbach to contain. It was looking like it could be far worse after Dortmund took a 4-0 lead after just 32 minutes, but Monchengladbach managed to contain and even pull two goals back in the second half through Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl before the home side added a fifth in second half injury time.
Borussia Monchengladbach’s struggles on the road have lasted for a significant period of time now with their last away win coming all the way back on January 28th 2023. Since then, the visitors have lost five and drawn two on their travels. An area which they have found particularly hard is stopping the leaking of goals on their part. Over the course of those seven away fixtures, Monchengladbach have shipped 19 goals, which bodes well for Bayer Leverkusen coming into this contest.

The big question coming into this encounter is whether Bayer Leverkusen have the spirit and fitness levels to pick themselves up and go again after such a heart-breaking exit from the Europa League within the week. Borussia Monchengladbach have suffered a miserable run of form away from home and if the hosts play to the capacity of which they are capable of then they should have the better of play. The depth that Bayer Leverkusen boast within their squad is strong and a few sets of fresh legs should serve them well here. Whilst this won’t prove a walkover for Bayer Leverkusen, home advantage should play to their favour and they are worth backing to get the better of Monchengladbach, although utilising the draw no bet market looks a shrewd move.
