THE LOWDOWN
RENNES
Owned by the Pinot family, Stade Rennais have had another heavy summer of investment as they continue to build from a UEFA Europa Conference League finish in 2022 to UEFA Europa League qualification in 2023. They did sell both Lovro Majer and Jeremy Doku to Wolfsburg and Manchester City over the summer, respectively.
However, it has been a really poor start to the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign with just three victories in their opening nine matches as they languish firmly in the middle-of-the-table. They have suffered back-to-back defeats either side of the international break with losses against Paris Saint-Germain and then Lorient.
STRASBOURG
Strasbourg enjoyed a bizarre and fairly tumultuous summer with the sale of the club and takeover by the same group, Clearlake Capital, who took over at Chelsea. That led to some strong protests by the club’s supporters but did help them make some big name acquisitions that they may not have otherwise with Abakar Sylla and Angelo Gabriel.
Since the appointment of former Arsenal captain and Crystal Palace manager, Patrick Vieira, Strasbourg have underperformed significantly as they sit in the bottom-half of the table. Pressure is growing on Vieira with the club, under the aforementioned new ownership, suffering three successive defeats ahead of this one.

STRASBOURG
Patrick Vieira has a few injury concerns for this one with key summer signing, Emmanuel Emegha, unavailable for their visit to Rennes.
PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Sels; Senaya, Nyamsi, Perrin, Delaine; Bakwa, Doukoure, Mwanga, Diarra, Deminguet; Mothiba

THE PREDICTION
This one is a game between two sides that have majorly underperformed their pre-season expectations after both having relatively busy summer transfer windows and major overhauls but both struggling for any consistency. They both come into this on the back of some poor form and are lacking any real fluency. So, as a result of that, this is not expected to be a thriller for the neutral with a low-scoring encounter expected.
