THE LOWDOWN

BREST

It has been an incredibly impressive season for Stade Brest and they are one of the stories of the season for anywhere in Europe as they aim to claim a top three spot and UEFA Champions League qualification under the management of former Sunderland player Eric Roy. They are and have, though, been wobbling since returning from the March international break.

Brest come into this one on the back of a goalless draw against struggling Nantes in their most recent outing, last weekend. That frustrating result means that Brest have now managed just one win in their last four matches after recently suffering back-to-back losses to Monaco and Olympique Lyonnais.

REIMS

After an underwhelming campaign, Belgian-born English manager Will Still announced that he was stepping down from the Stade de Reims hotseat with immediate effect in the last week and a half or so. Still did an excellent job last season but openly discussing a move away from the club as well as fairly heavy investment to the squad has led to him leaving after a season of underperformance.

Reims’ most recent game saw them suffer a 4-1 hammering at the hands of bottom-of-the-table Clermont a couple of weeks ago with Muhammad Cham and Elba Rashani notching braces for Clermont. That was their third successive Ligue 1 loss and they have now managed just one win in their last eight matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

BREST

Eric Roy is blessed with a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s visit of Reims so he will be able to name an unchanged eleven for Brest.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Bizot; Lala, Chardonnet, Brassier, Locko; Lees-Melou, Magnetti; Del Castillo, Camara, Satriano; Mounie

REIMS

Thibault De Smet is missing through suspension for Reims, whilst the likes of Joseph Okumu, Maxime Busi and Mohamed Daramy are all out injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Diouf; Koudou, Agbadou, Abdelhamid, Akieme; Munetsi, Kone, Teuma; Ito, Diakite, Nakamura

UNAVAILABLE: De Smet (Suspended), Atangana (Injured), Okumu (Injured), Busi (Injured), Daramy (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

For much of the campaign, Stade Brest’s impressive campaign of overperformance and overachievement has been built upon an excellent defensive foundation. However, since the aforementioned dip in form after the international break, they had conceded 13 goals in four games before that goalless draw with Nantes. Reims will be looking to finish the season with as little fuss as possible without a manager so Brest, especially with home advantage, should earn a much-needed, stabilising victory.

TIP: BREST TO WIN
