THE LOWDOWN

WEST HAM

  • West Ham United are in the middle of an exciting and fairly crazy relegation battle down at the bottom end of the Premier League. Their most recent league outing was a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, meaning they have won one of their last six matches.
  • Aside from doubts over Emerson Palmieri, Nayef Ageurd and Gianluca Scamacca, West Ham have a clean bill of health for this weekend.

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Ruben Selles’ Southampton have picked up points at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge, as well as earning a draw against Tottenham in their last match but the visitors remain at the bottom-of-the-table.
  • Saints have some major issues with Armel Bella-Kotchap still out injured, as well as Juan Larios being ruled out for the season with Tino Livramento still not yet ready to return. There are also doubts over Mohammed Salisu and Che Adams.

THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTHAMPTON

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Bazunu; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Salisu, Perraud; Ward-Prowse, Lavia; Walcott, Alcaraz, Elyounoussi; Mara

UNAVAILABLE: Bella-Kotchap (Injured), Larios (Injured), Livramento (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Whenever West Ham United have been desperate for a victory they have pulled one out of nowhere. Two examples have been home victories in 2023 against both Everton and Nottingham Forest, who were also in dire straits. Southampton are indeed another of those teams down at the bottom fighting with West Ham and whilst Saints have been capable of picking up points against the so-called ‘bigger sides’, they have suffered defeats to both Leeds and Brentford in that time. A West Ham, therefore, seems likely.

TIP: WEST HAM TO WIN
