THE LOWDOWN

WATFORD

  • Watford dug in brilliantly to gain a priceless 0-1 win away at Aston Villa at the weekend, the Hornets’ first victory under new boss Roy Hodgson to leave them four points from safety heading into this match.
  • A head injury to centre-back Samir leaves him extremely doubtful here with Christian Kabasele on standby to replace him, whilst both Juraj Kucka and Joao Pedro are expected to face late fitness tests.

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Crystal Palace’s poor record in London derbies continued last time out as they were beaten 0-1 by Chelsea courtesy of a late Hakim Ziyech goal in a match that saw Palace keeper Vicente Guaita subbed off through a knee problem.
  • Guaita was replaced in goal by Jack Butland, who is likely to keep the gloves for the trip to Watford, which should see the return of midfielder Conor Gallagher to the Eagles’ starting line-up after the Chelsea loanee was ineligible to play against his parent club.

THE PREDICTION

Watford will be well aware that to stay in the Premier League, they must continue to accrue victories with draws becoming less and less of a help to them. Whilst they are noticeable stronger defensively under the command of Hodgson, the Hornets will surely look to take more chances going forward at home in front of their own fans. Whilst this could pay off for them in front of goal, Crystal Palace are a dangerous side offensively when you factor in the attacking players at their disposal, with the return of Gallagher likely to give them an extra edge in midfield. This contest could go either way, but with each expected to push hard for the three points, backing both teams to score has to be favoured.

Tip: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
