THE LOWDOWN

SHEFFIELD UTD

There are several teams on the continent in Europe’s major leagues whereby they are simply awaiting their inevitable fate of relegation to be mathematically confirmed. The Blades, like Almeria in Spain or Salernitana in Italy, fall into that category with them returning from the March international break sitting eight points adrift of safety.

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United’s most recent outing was three weeks ago when they took a 2-0 lead at the Vitality Stadium against AFC Bournemouth but eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Enes Unal scoring a second-half stoppage-time equaliser for the Cherries. Those two goals conceded mean they have now let in 74 goals in 28 matches.

FULHAM

Under the management of former Everton and Hull City boss Marco Silva, Fulham have been bizarre this season. Many would argue the point that the Cottagers have been generally underwhelming, or at least unconvincing, for the vast majority of the campaign, but they are actually in the hunt for a top seven or top eight finish and potential European qualification.

That bizarre campaign continued in their most recent outing a couple of weeks ago when they hammered Tottenham Hotspur by three goals to nil at Craven Cottage, meaning they have now defeated Spurs as well as Arsenal and Manchester United. Prior to that victory, they had suffered a 2-1 loss to an injury ravaged Wolverhampton Wanderers side at Molineux.

THE TEAM NEWS

SHEFFIELD UTD

Chris Wilder has a few concerns for this weekend’s visit of Fulham to Bramall Lane. George Baldock has been described as ‘touch and go’ after picking up a calf injury whilst on international duty with Greece.

He did suggest they may get ‘a couple back’ from an injury list that has includes the likes of Tunisian international midfielder Anis Ben Slimane and striker Cameron Archer.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Grbic; Ahmedhodzic, Trusty, Robinson; Bogle, Davies, Arblaster, Hamer, Osborn; McBurnie, Brereton Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Egan (Injured), Basham (Injured), Baldock (Injured), Lowe (Injured), Norrington-Davies (Injured), Jebbison (Illness)

QUESTIONABLE: Ben Slimane (Injured), Archer (Injured)

FULHAM

Marco Silva said there were no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for this weekend’s visit to Bramell Lane and they have a fully fit squad for this one.

Defender Issa Diop and Albanian striker Armando Broja, who joined on loan from Chelsea during the winter transfer window, missed their most recent outing but are expected to be available for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castagne, Adarabioyo, Bassey, Robinson; Palhinha, Lukic; Iwobi, Pereira, Willian; Muniz

THE PREDICTION

Sheffield United may well have been boosted by the points deduction that Nottingham Forest have incurred over the international break but the Blades remain well adrift down at the bottom-of-the-table. Fulham, despite the view being one of scepticism about their overall level, have managed four victories in their last six matches and against much better sides than their upcoming opposition. Given that, backing a Fulham victory would appear the way to go for this one.

TIP: FULHAM TO WIN
