THE LOWDOWN

LIVERPOOL

  • It was an uncharacteristically sloppy performance from Liverpool against promoted side Fulham last weekend and one that saw Jurgen Klopp’s men collect just a point from their opening match, with an improved display surely in the pipeline here.
  • The injury suffered by Thiago Alcantara last weekend will set the Spanish international back “four to six weeks” so the returning Naby Keita or perhaps Harvey Elliott will deputise, while Darwin Nunez is pushing for his first start after two impressive cameos so far.

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • Crystal Palace were easily second best in their defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League season’s curtain-raiser and it doesn’t get much easier for them here as they take on one of the favourites for the title.
  • Promising young talent Michael Olise has a chance of making the squad given that he has stepped up his recovery, while Patrick Vieira is faced with the conundrum of whether to opt for Jean-Philippe Mateta up front or stick with Odsonne Edouard.

THE PREDICTION

Liverpool were well below-par against Fulham last week but it is hard to imagine this Jurgen Klopp team putting in another performance like that given their consistently high level in recent years. With perennial title contenders Man City already having the edge in terms of points, another slip-up would not be allowed here and it is likely to be an altogether different performance from last season’s FA Cup and League Cup winners. Palace were easily beaten by Arsenal in their opener, and they will struggle to contain the hosts in front of the Anfield faithful. Expect a fast start with Liverpool tipped to be leading at both half-time and full-time.

TIP: DOUBLE RESULT – LIVERPOOL / LIVERPOOL
