THE LOWDOWN

BRIGHTON

  • Brighton have had a full week to reflect and iron out their deficiencies after being taken apart 0-3 at home to Burnley last Saturday, a result which leaves them with just one win from their last six in the Premier League.
  • The Seagulls will be significantly boosted by the return from suspension of captain Lewis Dunk who should add some much-needed steel within their defence, whilst Graham Potter will be hoping that Adam Webster can overcome a groin strain in time to take his place in the starting line-up.

ASTON VILLA

  • An extremely poor 0-1 defeat against Watford this past weekend means that it is now only one victory from eight games in all competitions for Aston Villa, an unacceptable return for a side which such talent among their ranks, particularly going forward.
  • Only midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is certain to miss this one, with centre-back Ezri Konsa set to returning to the starting line-up following suspension, a big boost for Steven Gerrard.

THE TEAM NEWS

QUESTIONABLE: Webster (Injured), Mwepu (Injured)

ASTON VILLA

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Ramsey; Buendia, Ings, Coutinho

UNAVAILABLE: Nakamba (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Neither of these two teams are in the best of form right now and despite the abundance of talent on show, it would be no surprise if this contest ended up being a turgid one. The return of both Dunk for Brighton and Konsa for Villa should at least significantly shore both sides up defensively, which may lead to a tight affair that sees them each struggle to create many clear-cut opportunities. Goals are therefore expected to be at a premium and the smart play in this one would be to back under 2.5 goals scored for the third successive fixture involving Aston Villa.

Tip: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
