THE LOWDOWN

ASTON VILLA

  • Aston Villa fans will be expecting a significant response from their side after falling to a 1-0 defeat away at Newcastle last time out in what was an incredibly poor performance from the Villains.
  • The return of winger Leon Bailey off the bench was at least one positive to take, although he faces stiff competition for a place in the starting line-up here with the likes of Emi Buendia, Philippe Coutinho, Ashley Young and Ollie Watkins all capable of playing out wide in attack.

WATFORD

  • Watford remain without a win under new boss Roy Hodgson following their poor 0-2 loss at home to Brighton with the former Crystal Palace boss having accrued just a single point from his opening three games in charge of the Hornets.
  • The trip to Aston Villa is expected to be the match that Watford unleash Ismaila Sarr from the start with the flying winger back fully-fit and integral to any hopes they have of Premier League survival.

THE PREDICTION

Although much has been made of Steven Gerrard’s appointment as Aston Villa boss and how strong of an appointment it is, the former Rangers manager has won just one of his last seven games in charge and the pressure is firmly on this extremely talented squad to start living up to its potential, beginning here against Watford. When taking into account the plethora of riches at Gerrard’s disposal going forward, combined with the visitors’ notoriously fragile defence who have kept just one Premier League clean sheet all season so far, Aston Villa with home advantage in their favour will be expected to come out on top between these two sides.

Tip: ASTON VILLA TO WIN
