Last season, Excelsior finished sixth in the Eerste Divisie and were promoted via the playoffs. In the Dutch second-tier, they were very entertaining with 139 goals coming in their 34 matches. They began their return to the top-flight last weekend with an impressive 2-0 win away to Cambuur, showing their goal scoring capabilities.
