THE LOWDOWN

KORTRIJK

The reduction of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League from 18 to 16 teams has meant the likelihood of being relegated this season is more likely than ever. They struggled for much of last season, finishing just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places, and they are expected to struggle down at the bottom end of the table, once again.

Edward Still began the season but he has already been replaced by Glen De Roeck as they languish down at the bottom end of the table. The home team come into this on the back of a continuation in their improvement in their performances and results. Their most recent outing was a slender 1-0 win against an out of form Club Brugge, last weekend.

GENK

Nicknamed ‘Blue-White’, Genk spent much of last season sitting at the top-of-the-table in the Jupiler Pro League but they eventually drifted down the table and finished third in the regular season and then lost the title on the final day of the season with a second-half stoppage-time screamer from Antwerp’s Toby Alderweireld.

Under the management of Wouter Vrancken, their most recent outing was a goalless draw at home to Ferencvaros in the group stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League in midweek. It has been a generally slow and bad start to the campaign across all competitions, though, with just six victories in 20 matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

Kortrijk will be without Thierry Ambrose due to injury and they will also be missing the likes of Nayel Mehssatou and Youssef Challouk, who are doubts.

THE PREDICTION

Now, just a few weeks ago, prior to the October international break, this one would have been viewed as a bit of a foregone conclusion with the Genk rocking up to Kortrijk and expected to sweep them aside. However, Kortrijk have managed to be much-improved with two victories in their last three matches. Genk remain unbeaten in their last five matches but have struggled to get over the line throughout the season. Given that, as well as their home advantage, a double chance bet in favour of Kortrijk looks the way to go for this one.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – KORTRIJK TO WIN OR DRAW
