THE LOWDOWN

CLUB BRUGGE

After winning the Belgian title in 2022, Club Brugge had a really difficult defence of their title as they only just managed to finish in the top four and the end of season championship round playoff places. However, before the end of the season, they appointed arch-rivals manager, Ronny Deila, who had been in charge with Standard Liege.

This time around, they have been far more entertaining and enterprising with a fluid style of football designed to suit a fairly expansive squad. However, after a very bright start to the season, they have significantly dipped and they come into this on the back of back-to-back Jupiler Pro League defeats, meaning they are winless in their last five league matches.

ANTWERP

At the start of the 2022/23 Jupiler Pro League season, Royal Antwerp won nine successive matches before fading through the middle off the season. However, rallying late and finishing with a flourish allowed them to pinch their first Belgian title in over 50 years late on in the match on the final day of the season.

Under the management of Mark van Bommel, they come into this on the back of a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Porto in the UEFA Champions League, during the week. They have managed just four victories in their 14 matches across all competitions so far this season as they stumble quite badly at the start of this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

CLUB BRUGGE

Whilst there are a few injury doubts, Club Brugge have nothing fresh or new to worry about in terms of availability so will be able to be unchanged for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Mignolet; Buchanan, Mechele, Spileers, De Cuyper; Onyedika, Vetlesen; Skov Olsen, Vanaken, Nusa; Thiago

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Vermant (Injured), Sabbi (Injured), Talbi (Injured), Bursik (Injured)

ANTWERP

Mark van Bommel has more or less a fully fit and available squad for this weekend with no fresh concerns so could name an unchanged eleven for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Butez; Bataille, Alderweireld, Coulibaly, Wijndal; Vermeeren, Ekkelenkamp, Keita; Muja, Janssen, Balikwisha

UNAVAILABLE: Valencia (Injured), Keita (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ondrejka (Injured), Vines (Injured), Verhulst (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Only one team have scored more goals than Club Brugge so far this season but Royal Antwerp have, by a distance, the current best defensive record in the league with just eight conceded in 11 matches. This is a real clash of styles between two of the teams in the top four teams from last season but both sides are struggling in recent times so it could well end up being a fairly low-scoring affair as even the fluency of Club Brugge is stifled by searching for something.

BETTING TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
