Former Brentford assistant coach Brian Riemer has been tasked with restoring one of Belgium’s ‘Big Three’ back to their previous heights of regular contenders and UEFA Champions League qualifiers and they have started the season very well, beginning this match day in second place behind Brussels rivals Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with fellow high flyers Gent a couple of weeks ago, prior to the November international break. They have suffered just two defeats in their opening 14 Jupiler Pro League matches with a lack of European football likely aiding their cause as they aim to challenge Union SG throughout the campaign.

Following promotion to the top-flight last season, one of John Textor’s stable of clubs, Racing White Daring Molenbeek, have begun the 2023/24 Jupiler Pro League season in respectable fashion. The visitors begin the weekend sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table with a record of four victories, five draws and five defeats.

They come into this one on the back of a much-needed end to a poor run of form, too, defeating a struggling Eupen side by three goals to one a couple of weeks ago. Prior to that victory, RWDM had been on a seven-match winless run of form in Belgium’s top-flight but have remained entertaining with 42 goals coming in their 14 games so far this season.

Anderlecht have no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for the visit of RWDM with Majeed Ashimeru the only doubt for Brian Riemer’s side.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Schmeichel; Sardella, Debast, Vertonghen, Augustinusson; Stroeykens, Rits, Delaney; Dreyer, Dolberg, Hazard

QUESTIONABLE: Ashimeru (Injured)

Racing White Daring Molenbeek remain without Kylian Hazard due to injury, whilst Florian Le Joncour and Alexis de Sart are doubts for the trip to Brussels.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Defourny; Heris, Klaus, Segovia; Camara, Dwomoh, Abe, Abner; Mercier, Reine-Adelaide; Gueye

UNAVAILABLE: Hazard (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Le Joncour (Injured), de Sart (Injured)

Both in terms of club size and reputation as well as their current form on the pitch, this one would appear to be a bit of a mismatch. However, one thing that the two teams do have in common is an entertaining habit with the two teams combining for 44 goals scored in the opening few months of the campaign. Anderlecht, though, remain firm favourites, especially with their home advantage, for what could be a high-scoring clash.
