Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Andrey Rublev prediction

Felix Auger-Aliassime recorded his best victory in quite some time as he dumped world number three Alexander Zverev out of the US Open in the third-round. The Canadian dropped the first set but crucially levelled the match up in the second set tiebreak after saving a set point, going on to win 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-4. Auger-Aliassime was not broken on serve after set one and won 78% of his points on first serve. This was his first ever victory over a top 5 player at a major.

He now takes on Andrey Rublev, who battled his way past Coleman Wong in five sets to advance. The Russian struggled with his concentration and serve at times, making a poor start but coming through to win 2-6 6-4 6-3 4-6 6-3 after three hours and 10 minutes. Rublev’s first serve percentage was down at 50% but he still outlasted Wong to get through.

Rublev dominates the head-to-head, leading 7-1 and 2-0 on outdoor hard court. The Russian has won their two meetings this year in Doha and Hamburg and has come out on top in their last five matches in total. He has not been at his best in this tournament, but we still predict Rublev to overpower the Canadian and advance to another quarter-final at Flushing Meadows.
