FPL Double Gameweek 37 – Captain Picks

The vast majority of FPL gaffers will have come away from Double Gameweek 36 feeling bitterly disappointed despite the numerous large point-totals accrued following a gameweek that saw many players face two fixtures. The reason for that is the performance of Mo Salah (£13.2m), who blanked in his first match against Spurs before being named on the bench away to Aston Villa. The Egyptian failed to score off the bench, finishing with just 3 FPL points overall and 6 for those who have him the armband.

Those who captained Kevin De Bruyne (£12.1m) however, were celebrating in a big way! Following an assist against Newcastle last weekend, Man City’s midfield superstar put on his best Sergio Aguero impersonation at Molineux the following Wednesday, scoring four goals including a 25 minute first-half hat-trick. A 24-point score gave him a total of 30 across Double Gameweek 36. There was also plenty of joy for Heung-Min Son (£11.1m) captainers, the South Korean racking up two goals, an assist and 20 FPL points.

Another double gameweek awaits here, the penultimate gameweek of the season although only five clubs are in action twice this time round. We assess the best premium captain picks across a pivotal round of fixtures, alongside a differential choice which represents a high-risk high reward option ahead of Sunday’s 10:30am deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Heung-Min Son (£11.1m) vs BUR (H)

Although at the time of publishing Heung-Min Son is priced at £11.0m, we are expecting him to rise in price overnight so we have priced him at £11.1m. So, if you don’t have Spurs’ in-form attacking midfielder in your team and plan to bring him in, we’d advise you to make a move as soon as possible. Playing as part of an offensive trio alongside Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski, Son is racking up attacking returns with regularity and is now just one goals short of Mo Salah in the race for the golden boot. That adds personal motivation for the South Korean to increase his goal tally in Double Gameweek 37.

Burnley travel to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, a must-win fixture from both teams’ perspective which lead to a more open game than you would expect from the Clarets. Should this pan out, then it may turn out in Son’s favour if he is afforded more space going forward. Either way, he will no doubt prove a huge attacking threat having accumulated ten goals and three assists since Gameweek 30, including a whopping five double figure point-hauls.

Kevin De Bruyne (£12.1m) vs WHU (a)

As is the case with Son, we expect Kevin De Bruyne’s £11.0m price-tag to raise ahead of tomorrow and have therefore priced him at £0.1m higher than his current cost at the time of writing. Unsurprisingly, many FPL managers stung by missing out on the Belgian superstar’s 30-point haul have wasted little time in bringing him into their teams, especially following Mo Salah’s injury in the FA Cup final.

De Bruyne has now recorded at least one attacking return in each of his last six Premier League appearances, six goals and four assists in total. Of course, four of those goals came most recently against Wolves and the 30-year-old’s FPL score over the course of those six matches was 65 points. West Ham away represents a tough assignment for De Bruyne in Double Gameweek 37. However, Wolves was a difficult fixture on paper and we all know how that turned out.

Danny Ings (£7.7m) vs CRY (H), BUR (H)

Whilst Danny Ings (£7.7m) does not boast the highest ownership currently in FPL, the 10.9% of managers who do own the Aston Villa striker at the time of writing are likely to be active within the game. That is because Steven Gerrard’s side boasts two fixtures in Double Gameweek 37, with home matches against Crystal Palace and Burnley respectively.

An injury to Ollie Watkins renders him doubtful for Sunday’s clash with the Eagles, meaning that Ings has to be considered a strong contender to start both games. Just as importantly, he is currently in good goalscoring form, netting in both Gameweek 35 and Double Gameweek 36, accruing 18 points across those two gameweeks. When taking into account that Ings has both form and fixture in his favour, he has to be considered a strong captaincy candidate.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Michael Olise (£5.3m) vs AVL (a), EVE (a)

At a bargain price, Crystal Palace’s attacking winger Michael Olise (£5.3m) could well prove an ultimate sleeper pick when taking into account the offensive threat he poses, not to mention his miniscule ownership of less than 0.5%. The Eagles are one of five teams who play twice in Double Gameweek 37, with two away fixtures against Aston Villa and Everton on the horizon for them.

The biggest risk with this pick is Olise’s potential minutes. Patrick Viera boasts a number of attacking options and whilst Olise is one of his most dangerous players, it would be no surprise if Viera was not to start him in both Double Gameweek 37 fixtures. However, those FPL managers who need to select a differential skipper to rise up their respective mini leagues have no choice but to take such risks.
