FPL 2023-24 | Gameweek 33 | Captain Picks

Gameweek 32 was one which delivered, but also frustrated at the same time, especially when it came to captain selections from an FPL perspective. Following a midweek full of exiting European fixtures, with the Champions League thrilling us in particular, we return to cast an eye over another three premium captaincy options for Gameweek 33, as well as a tempting differential pick ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Mo Salah (£13.4m) vs CRY (H)

After being on the end of a shocking 0-3 defeat at the hands of Atalanta at Anfield in the Europa League, losing their long unbeaten record at home in all competitions, Liverpool will look to take their frustrations out on Crystal Palace. This is a must-win game as well in the race for the Premier League title and with goal difference potentially a defining factor, the Reds will want to win by a significant margin. With that in mind what better player to have among your ranks than Mo Salah. The Egyptian boasts 17 goals, nine assists and 184 fantasy points this season. His captaincy credentials are there for all to see.

Cole Palmer (£6.1m) vs EVE (H)

It’s now 16 goals and ten assists for Cole Palmer in the Premier League and such numbers cannot be ignored when talking about potential Gameweek 33 captains. His ownership is vast and the best opportunity to take advantage of Palmer’s excellent numbers is to hand the Chelsea midfielder the armband. As it stands, Palmer sits within the top five highest FPL scorers in midfield, having accrued 182 fantasy points overall and he’ll be confident of further high returns against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.3m) vs LUT (H)

Although Kevin De Bruyne was set to start Man City’s quarter-final first-leg clash against Real Madrid, the Belgian midfielder had to pull out of the starting line-up late on due to illness. The hope from an FPL perspective though, will be that De Bruyne has recovered sufficiently in time to start in Gameweek 33 with Man City facing Luton at the Etihad Stadium. Especially after his Gameweek 32 performance which saw him rack up two goals, an assist and 18 fantasy points. Failure to accumulate a big haul vs the Hatters would be seen as a surprise if De Bruyne does feature.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Kai Havertz (£7.3m) vs AVL (H)

One of the most in-form Premier League players around right now, Kai Havertz has forced his way into the Gameweek 33 captaincy debate and certainly when you consider his current small ownership. A goal and assist for the German international last weekend away at Brighton led to him picking up 14 FPL points, his fourth double-figure score since Gameweek 25. Over that period, Havertz has racked up both five goals and five assists.
