Paraguay manager Gustavo Alfaro has announced his 26-man squad for FIFA World Cup 2026.

Having been excellent in CONMEBOL qualification for FIFA World Cup 2026 after the appointment of Gustavo Alfaro, Paraguay have named a strong squad to compete in an evenly matched Group D consisting of co-hosts the United States as well as Turkiye and Australia.

There are a few recognisable stars in the final third with Brighton and Hove Albion attacking midfielder Diego Gomez joined by former Seagulls forward Julio Enciso, as well as former Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron.

They aren’t the only players to be relied upon in attack, though, with La Masia graduate Tonny Sanabria, now at Cremonese, and former Nottingham Forest winger Ramon Sosa.

There is a lot of experience at the back, too, with 38-year-old goalkeeper Gatito Fernandez in behind the likes of Palmeiras defender Gustavo Gomez, former West Ham United centre-back Fabian Balbuena and former Getafe man Omar Alderete, who has been excellent in his debut campaign in the Premier League for Sunderland this season.

Perhaps the most notable omission from the squad is 51-cap midfielder Mathias Villasanti, who was named in their preliminary squad. There are also some experienced absentees in attack, too, such as Oscar Romero and Angel Romero, of Huracan and Boca Juniors respectively.
