Crystal Palace Preview: Competent on the counter

Crystal Palace managed to push themselves into the top-half of the Premier League last season before starting this season quite slowly. However, the Eagles have been genuinely strong for a few months now as they edge back towards the top ten.

The home team come into this one on the back of an impressive performance at Craven Cottage against European chasing Fulham the other day with a 2-0 victory courtesy of a Joachim Andersen own goal as well as a strike by Daniel Munoz.

Aston Villa Preview: A big few months ahead

Aston Villa have been inconsistent throughout the campaign but they have been able to put in some impressive performances, raising their game, against the so-called ‘bigger’ and better sides in both the Premier League and on the continent.

After a 2-2 draw with champions-elect Liverpool at Villa Park last weekend, the Villains then once again came from behind at the weekend to defeat Chelsea by two goals to one thanks to a second-half brace scored by winter transfer window signing Marco Asensio.

Crystal Palace Team News: Wharton could start

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Aston Villa this week, Oliver Glasner has reported no fresh injury concerns and there are no suspension issues. Glasner even suggested that former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton could be fit enough to start this week.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Wharton, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta

Aston Villa Team News: Mings & Rogers doubtful

Unai Emery has confirmed that England international duo Tyrone Mings and Morgan Rogers will have to be assessed ahead of their visit to Selhurst Park this week. Pau Torres is close to a return but not yet ready, whilst Axel Disasi is once again available after being ineligible at the weekend against his parent club Chelsea.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Disasi, Maatsen; McGinn, Tielemans; Malen, Asensio, Ramsey; Watkins

Unavailable: Torres (Injured), Kamara (Injured), Onana (Injured), Barkley (Injured)

Questionable: Mings (Injured), Rogers (Injured)

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Prediction

Crystal Palace have been dealing with key injury issues throughout the campaign, as well as enduring a couple of turbulent transfer windows, but the Eagles have players that have now returned and a more settled look to them ahead of the final few months. Aston Villa, on the other hand, are in the middle of a relentless schedule that will only continue with the return of the UEFA Champions League for the Villains next week. Siding with Palace, given their home advantage, would appear a solid bet for this one.
