THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS WOMEN

  • Perth Scorchers secured their first win of this year’s Women’s Big Bash League by cantering to victory over reigning champions Brisbane Heat which was largely thanks to a superb opening partnership.
  • After restricting the Heat to 146/7, the Scorchers got their chase off to a great start as Amy Jones and Meg Lanning put on 129 thanks to 56 from the latter whilst Jones ended up unbeaten on 60.
  • That pair are going to be key moving forward for the Scorchers and with Natalie Sciver in at three, the Scorchers have plenty of runs in their top order to take the game away from their opposition.

ADELAIDE STRIKERS WOMEN

  • Adelaide Strikers made it two wins from three as they edged Hobart Hurricanes in a thrilling contest with the Strikers just managing to hold on in a game that went down to the final ball of the innings.
  • In a low-scoring match, the Strikers were reduced to 113/8 and looked set to suffer a second consecutive defeat but a superb effort by the bowling unit managed to hold on with Sophie Devine keeping her nerve in the final over.
  • The New Zealand international showed her class to help her side to the three-run win after she only allowed seven runs off the final over thanks in part to taking the wicket of Nicola Carey with the penultimate ball.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these teams come into this contest on the back of a win in their last match but Perth will be the more confident of the two. The Scorchers were dominant in their win over reigning champions Brisbane Heat and will take some beating if they can continue to bat like that. Adelaide did well to defend a low total against Hobart but must find a way to post more runs than that and could struggle here with the Scorchers able to make it back-to-back wins.
