WINNIPEG HAWKS
- After falling short in a reduced-overs run chase in their opening game, the Winnipeg Hawks gave responded magnificently with two outstanding run chases of 210 and 217 against Vancouver Knights and Toronto Nationals respectively to sit just behind leaders and opponents Brampton Wolves.
- Big hitting Aussie opener Chris Lynn has been a key reason in their recent success as he has bludgeoned 89 runs from 48 balls and 74 from 34 in his last two innings, which has set the foundations for their impressive chases.
- Tall pace bowler Mohammad Irfan came back into the side last time out for Dutchman Paul van Meekeren, and he is likely to keep his place in what could very well be an unchanged line-up to face the Wolves.
BRAMPTON WOLVES
- Global T20 newcomers Brampton Wolves remain the only unbeaten team in the tournament and they have an outstanding net run rate thanks to their dominant win over Montreal Tigers in their opening match and then the win over Edmonton Royals last time out.
- West Indian opener Lendl Simmons has been a key figure at the top of the order with two good innings in both matches while veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi rolled back the years against the Royals by smashing an unbeaten 81 from 40 balls to help them to victory.
- While the batting looks formidable, the bowling attack is just as talented with Ish Sodhi having taken eight wickets in their first two games, and he is well supported by Wahab Riaz and Shahid Afridi.
THE PREDICTION
Winnipeg Hawks and Brampton Wolves have arguably been the two most impressive sides in the opening rounds of the Global T20 Canada. The Hawks’ batting is arguably the best and most consistent in the tournament, though the Wolves have plenty of quality. With Sodhi, Afridi and Wahab Riaz, the Hawks batsmen will not have it all their own way and that bowling unit may just be the decisive factor in swinging this towards the Brampton Wolves.
