THE LOWDOWN

PESHAWAR ZALMI

  • Peshawar Zalmi have all but sealed their place in the playoffs with a 35-run win over Lahore Qalandars last time out and will now be targeting a top-two finish with three matches still to play, but defeat would leave them waiting longer to guarantee their spot on the top four.
  • A 107-run stand for the first wicket between openers Saim Ayub and Babar Azam set the tone for Peshawar against the reigning PSL champions, both players going on to reach half-centuries helping Zalmi accumulate 207 batting first, which proved a score too high for Lahore to chase down.

QUETTA GLADIATORS

  • For Quetta Gladiators the equation here is simple, defeat against Peshawar Zalmi, would eliminate them from playoff contention, but victory keeps them in with a faint chance of sneaking through.
  • Quetta are coming off the back of ending the top four aspirations of Karachi Kings, beating them by four wickets after chasing down 165 with one ball and four wickets remaining.

THE PREDICTION

The stakes are high heading into this match with playoff qualification still on the table. Although Quetta Gladiators have won just two matches all season, their bowling especially was impressive against Karachi and a similar level of performance will cause Peshawar problems. But the way Zalmi took down a formidable Qalandars outfit was extremely impressive and it’s hard to see Quetta competing with them based on such a showing. Expect a tight affair, which is unlikely to be high-scoring with Peshawar doing just enough to edge out the Gladiators.
