THE LOWDOWN
ISLAMABAD UNITED
- Islamabad United were victorious in their of their last four PSL league fixtures and whilst that wasn’t enough to secure a top two finish over Multan Sultans or Peshawar Zalmi, it did at least ensure them of a play-off place.
- They’ll come into the eliminator in confident mood though, having defeated table toppers Multan this past weekend and in dramatic fashion, chasing down a monster target of 229 with three wickets remaining off the final ball of the match.
QUETTA GLADIATORS
- Quetta Gladiators kept their place in the top four but head into the play-offs on the back of a 79-run mauling at the hands of Multan Sultans, hardly the best preparation for what is essentially now knockout cricket.
- The worry from the Gladiators’ perspective is that they’ve been disappointing now for an extended period, winning just one of their last five games after winning four of their first five to start the season.
THE PREDICTION
Whilst Quetta Gladiators were one of the pace-setters early on in the tournament, their form has dramatically regressed since and as a franchise in general, play-off cricket isn’t something they are familiar with following a number of poor seasons previously, which shouldn’t work to their advantage with the stakes so high. Islamabad United will surely see this as a golden opportunity to progress and when considering the overall showings of Quetta in general across the month so far, backing Islamabad has to be favoured.
