THE LOWDOWN

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand made light work of Bangladesh in the first ODI, winning by 44 runs via the DLS method. After two of the Black Caps’ top three were dismissed for 0, Will Young struck a brilliant 105 and put on a game-changing partnership of 171 with captain Tom Latham, who hit 92 himself, helping New Zealand to 239/7 across their allocated 30 overs, a winning score.

BANGLADESH

Bangladesh couldn’t compete with New Zealand after rocking the hosts with two early wickets through Shoriful Islam. That was as good as it got for Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side, none of whom could play the type of innings that Will Young or Tom Latham could for the opponents. No Tigers batter managed a half-century as they finished on 200/9.

THE PREDICTION

It was expected that New Zealand would be the stronger of the two teams across this ODI series and the first ODI only adds weight to this opinion. New Zealand’s superior quality of batters means that are far more likely to put bigger individual scores on the board, giving their bowlers a significantly higher margin for error. Bangladesh don’t contain the same threat within their top order batting and it would be a no surprise if New Zealand didn’t extend their series lead.

BETTING TIP: NEW ZEALAND TO WIN
