THE LOWDOWN

NEW ZEALAND

Coach: Gary Stead

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • New Zealand looked to be coasting towards the quarter-finals, but three straight defeats later and the Black Caps’ place in the top four is now uncertain with Afghanistan and Pakistan hot on their heels.
  • Skipper Kane Williamson could return here and is desperately needed for both his batting and leadership, but bowler Matt Henry’s hamstring injury sustained against South Africa has ruled him out of the tournament.

PAKISTAN

Coach: Grant Bradburn

Captain: Babar Azam

  • Pakistan kept themselves in the qualification chasing pack with a seven-wicket triumph over Bangladesh last time out, their third win of the competition so far with three games left to play.
  • Shadab Khan may be forced to miss out for a second straight match due to a concussion, in which case Usama Mir would continue as the sole leg-spinning all-rounder, whilst Fakhar Zaman’s 81 against Bangladesh should ensure that he plays again over Imam ul-Haq.

THE PREDICTION

New Zealand may well be running out of steam at the home straight of the group stage as injuries perhaps begin to catch up with them. It’s never easy to shake a losing habit and three losses in a row will have taken its toll on the Black Caps. Pakistan meanwhile, could use their victory against Bangladesh as the catalyst for a late surge towards the top four and in a must win scenario, it might just bring the best out of their top players. Therefore, back Pakistan to get the better of the Black Caps.

BETTING TIP: PAKISTAN TO WIN
