THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Heat’s defence of their Women’s Big Bash League crown is not going to plan after suffering a third straight loss in WBBL|06. Their latest defeat came against Adelaide Strikers as their batting line-up failed to deliver once again, despite reaching 79 without the loss of a wicket in their pursuit of 154. Georgia Redmayne’s superb 65 from 47 balls proved to be in vain as only two of her teammates made it into double-figures and the Heat lost out by 18 runs. They now take on the impressive Melbourne Stars, a side that have won three in a row following their three successive abandonments to begin the campaign, their latest a brilliant success against Perth Scorchers. They thrashed the Scorchers by eight wickets after allowing the dangerous Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine to post just 30 runs between them. Having bowled the Perth outfit for 118, the Stars made light work of their target as captain Meg Lanning struck an unbeaten 51 and with her side all performing well of late, it is hard to see the Heat reversing their current slump in this one.
