The prediction
Carlton (14th) produced a promising performance in their 93-74, Round 22 loss to the Gold Coast Suns. While their effort and structure were improved, they were ultimately outclassed, and the defeat continued a disappointing run of form.
Port Adelaide (12th) extended their losing streak to four games but showed significantly more fight in a narrow one-goal loss to the top four Fremantle Dockers. With their season over, the club's focus has clearly shifted towards building for 2026.
Carlton midfielder Cooper Lord was his side's best player in the loss to the Suns. He was influential not only with his own output of 24 disposals and 12 tackles, but also for his successful tagging job on Gold Coast skipper Noah Anderson.
Port Adelaide defender Aliir Aliir was a dominant force in the backline against Fremantle. He was impassable in the air, taking a club record 17 marks, to go along with 22 disposals and 12 intercept possessions.
The recent results between these two teams have been mixed. Port Adelaide were comprehensive 50-point winners when the sides met earlier this season in Round 16 at the Adelaide Oval. However, Carlton triumphed in their 2024 encounter, running out 36-point winners.
Carlton look a side low on confidence and winding down, while Port Adelaide have the powerful motivation of farewelling two club greats. Their strong showing against top four Fremantle contrasted sharply with the Blues’ loss to the Suns, and if the Power replicate that intensity, they should have the edge.
