Carlos Alcaraz vs Alex de Minaur prediction
Carlos Alcaraz will no doubt be relishing the prospect of defying home hope Alex de Minaur and a fervent Aussie crowd as he targets a place in the semi finals for the very first time in Melbourne.
The top seed has not dropped a set and has looked locked-in since the opening round at this year’s tournament as he aims to become the youngest man ever to complete the Career Grand Slam with what would be his maiden Australian Open title.
The 22-year-old has reached this stage on his last two visits to Melbourne Park and will be highly confident of breaking new ground given he boasts a near flawless 5-0 head-to-head record against de Minaur, dropping just two sets to the world number six in that time.
Alcaraz appeared to hit a new gear in a 7-6 6-4 7-5 round of 16 victory over the battling Tommy Paul and that is bad news for de Minaur’s dream of going all the way to the final in his home Slam.
The man nicknamed Demon will be a major underdog despite some excellent form of his own, including a lightning-paced 6-4 6-1 6-1 win over tenth seed Alecxander Bublik last time out.
The odds on de Minaur will offer a significant pay out, but it would be a complete waste of your stake with Alcaraz a complete no-brainer here in terms of the outcome.
At a push the Aussie could be inspired by the local support and nick a set and their history has shown there to be a tie-break or two, so that’s a consideration as well.
However, the gap between 'Sincaraz' and the majority of the rest of the field is so big at present, that it may be more worth your while looking at how many games Alex can actually muster.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Alex de Minaur tip: Under 32.5 games
