Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard’s losing run extended to four matches last time out as he was beaten in the first stage of Cincinnati Open qualifying by Trevor Svajda. The Frenchman responded well after losing the first set but still went on to lose 6-1 1-6 6-2. He also suffered opening round defeats at Wimbledon and the Canadian Open to Yannick Hanfmann and Botic van de Zandschulp respectively. Mpetshi Perricard has struggled with injury at times this season, while his best form occurred at the start of the campaign as he reached back-to-back quarter-finals in Brisbane and Auckland.
His first-round opponent is Jenson Brooksby. The American has also struggled in terms of results, and he went on a nine-match losing run from Indian Wells to Queen’s Club earlier this season. He has managed to pick up a few more wins over the last few weeks, and that included a second quarter-final of the campaign at the Los Cabos Open.
If Mpetshi Perricard’s serve is not quite firing, Brooksby has enough quality to take advantage when the points develop into longer rallies.
