Francisco Comesana suffered a third straight defeat last time out as he was beaten by Pablo Llamas Ruiz in the first-round of a Challenger event in Cancun. The Argentine is down to 124 in the live rankings, despite reaching a career high of 54 this time last year. His most impressive result of the campaign was a third-round appearance at Roland Garros, but he has struggled for consistent results throughout the season. He is also without a quarter-final on the ATP Tour this year.
His first-round opponent is Yibing Wu. The Chinese player was unable to qualify for the Cincinnati Open after a defeat to Jaime Faria. He has won a Challenger event this season, while he also did advance to the last eight of the Mexican Open back in February, before a loss to eventual winner Flavio Cobolli.
Wu has the larger weapons to his game, and that could make all the difference on this surface, as he looks to generate some momentum ahead of the US Open.
